Q: What is TANCET?

A: TANCET is an initialism of Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test. This is an Entrance Examination which is conducted for admission to the professional Post Graduate courses. This examination is conducted by Anna University. Admissions of students are done to the various Private / Government universities or colleges in Tamil Nadu. TANCET is held annually. Large number of students appears for this entrance examination. This is the most popular examination of Tamil Nadu.

  1. Master of Technology – M. Tech
  2. Master of Engineering – M. E
  3. Master of Business Administration – MBA
  4. Master of Computer Application – MCA
  5. Master of Architecture – M. Arch
  6. Master of Planning – M. Plan

Q: What are the Eligibility Conditions of TANCET?

A: Following are the Eligibility Criteria of TANCET –

M. Tech / M. E

  1. Candidates must have obtained their Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or an equivalent
  2. Candidates should have obtained the above degree in the concerned subjects.

MBA

  1. Candidates must have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline or an equivalent degree from a recognized University
  2. Final year students are also eligible
  3. Candidates who have obtained both diploma and graduation degree are also eligible.

MCA

  1. Candidates must have completed their graduation in any field or its equivalent from any recognized University
  2. Candidates must have studied Mathematics and Statistics as their subjects in standard 12th or diploma or graduation.

M. Arch / M. Plan

  1. Candidates must have completed Graduation or Post Graduation or its equivalent degree in architecture or planning.
  2. Final year students are also eligible

Q. What is the examination pattern of TANCET?

A: Examination pattern of all the courses are described below –

M. Tech / M. E / M. Arch / M. Plan

  1. Total time duration of the test is two hours
  2. Question paper will have objective questions
  3. The question paper  will have three parts
Parts Number of Questions Number of Questions needed to be attempted Penalty for wrong answer
Part I – Engineering Mathematics 30 30 1/4th mark will be deducted
Part II – Basic Engineering & Science 45 Minimum 30 1/4th mark will be deducted
Part III – Specialization Paper (14 Sections will be there. Candidates have to select one) 45 Minimum 40 1/4th mark will be deducted


MBA

  1. Total duration of the test is two hours
  2. Question paper will consist of objective type questions

Data Interpretation 1 mark 1/5th mark will be deducted
Quantitative Ability 1 mark 1/5th mark will be deducted
Logical Reasoning 1 mark 1/5th mark will be deducted
English 1 mark 1/5th mark will be deducted

 MCA

  1. Time allotted will be two hours
  2. All total there will be 100 questions
  3. The question paper will have four sections

Analytical Reasoning 1 mark 1/4th mark will be deducted

Q. What are the preparation tips for TANCET?

A: Some preparation tips are given below –

  1. Proper Routine – Success is achieved when hard work is done sincerely and with full confidence. The first step for preparing for any entrance examination is following a proper time table.  The routine should have daily activities; most preference should be given to studies. Candidates must ensure that their routine should be made in such a way that they provide equal time for all their concerned subjects.
  2. Collection of Study Materials – Applicants should follow those study materials which they think is suitable for them to understand so that they can grasp easily. Suggestions for study material will always be there but it should always have last year’s question paper.
  3. Time Management – This is the most important factor that needs to be practiced while preparing for an entrance examination. Applicants will be provided with a limited time to complete their paper and in order to secure good marks candidates have to complete their paper in time with most correct answers. Practice the sample questions in time constraint.
  4. Start from Scratch – Candidates are always advised to start their preparation from scratch. They should slowly increase their level of difficulty of sums. Basic problems should be solved in finger tips only.
  5. Practice – Practice is the only effort that has to be put by the candidates. Applicants should practice as much as they can.
  6. Last year’s Paper – Candidates must solve last year’s paper in a limited time. These papers help students to get familiar with the exam pattern and time management.
  7. Mock Test – many coaching centers are there in India which conducts mock tests for the students. Candidates can enroll themselves and appear for the mock test.
  8. Evaluation – This process helps the candidates to know their weak areas and motivate them to work on the weaker points.
  9. Revision – The last tip is the revision. Before the examination day, candidates are advised to revise. Candidates should go through last year’s paper and sample papers.
