Q. What is Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET)?

A: Karnataka Common Entrance Test is an Entrance Examination which is being conducted for the purpose of admission of Karnataka candidates to the various Degree Level courses in Government or Private Colleges of Karnataka. Candidates have to qualify the entrance examination to get admission into the various courses. Admission is done to the full time courses of Engineering, Technology, Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Unani and Yoga.

Q. What is Eligibility Criteria of KCET?

A: The Eligibility Criteria for each course is different. Following are the details of eligibility conditions –

Engineering / Technology

  1. Candidates who have cleared the 12th standard examination or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry / Bio Technology/ Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the subjects are eligible
  2. Candidates must have obtained an aggregate minimum of 50% marks in the optional subjects
  3. SC / ST, Category – I and OBC candidates must have obtained 45% marks in the qualifying examination.

Medical / Dental

  1. Candidates must have passed the second year Pre – University or 12th  standard or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the subject
  2. Candidates are required to get minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects in the qualifying examination.
  3. The minimum marks is 40% for both Qualifying Examination and CET in case of SC / ST, Category – I and OBC candidates

Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy Courses

  1. Candidates are required to pass standard 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the subjects of study.
  2. Candidates who have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 10+2 are eligible for admission to Ayurveda / Homeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses.
  3. Candidates belonging to SC / ST, Category – I and OBC are required to have minimum of 40% marks in 10+2
  4. Candidates seeking admission in Dental / Medical / Ayurveda / Homeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses should have completed 17 years of age

Architecture Courses

  1. Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Mathematics as one of the optional subjects
  2. Candidates must have also secured minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in all subjects in 10+2
  3. Minimum required marks for SC / ST, Category – I and OBC candidates is 45%
  4. Candidates must have also appeared and secured minimum of 40% marks in NATA (for all category candidates)

Q. What is the Examination Pattern of KCET?

A: The Examination Pattern of KCET goes like this –

  1. The test will be conducted in two days in four different sessions for four subjects.
  2. Biology and Mathematics will be conducted on the first day in two sessions
  3. Next day Physics and Chemistry test will be conducted for two sessions
  4. Marks allotted for each subject is 60 marks
  5. Time allotted for each test is 80 minutes
  6. Question paper will carry objective type questions
  7. There is no negative marking for wrong answer but no marks will be awarded for multiple answers.
