There are six institutes of Technology which are counted as colleges of higher study in the field of Engineering . These institutes have imposed no domiciliary restriction on their seats. Detailed information regarding the institutes and admission procedure is given below:

A Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is held for admission to the 4 year Bachelor’s degree course in Architecture and 5 year integrated Master’s degree courses in sciences. The JEE is administrated jointly by the five Indian institutes of Technology and one of these five IITs act as the organizing institute for overall organization of JEE for that year.

Admission is open to all Indian nationals (residing in India/abroad).

Reservations at each institute(i) 15% and 7.5% seats for SC and ST Candidates (ii) two seats for children of defence/paramilitary forces personal killed or permanently disabled in action and (iii)  one seat for physically Handicapped candidates. All such candidates must appear and qualify in JEE (with relaxed qualifying norms for SC/ST candidates).

Direct Admission of Foreign Nationals (DAFN).A few seats are filled by direct admission of qualified foreign nationals residing in India or abroad. Their application have to be routed through the Govt. of India. This is the only channel of admission open to foreign nationals under self-financing scheme. Foreign nationals should have secured 60% marks in Eng:75% marks in each of PCM and 80% aggregate marks.

Preparatory Course for SC/ST candidates A number of candidates of SC/ST category who do no9t quality for admission are offered admission in preparatory course on the basis of their performance in the JEE. Those candidates who, on completion of the preparatory course, pass the examination conducted by admitting institutes are given admission to the first year in IIT.

Eligibility Age: 16-21yrs (16-26 yrs for SC/ST).Academic qualification passes in 10+2 system or equivalent with phy, chem. and Maths. Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam and expecting it to pass it to pass it before September may take the JEE on provisional admission. Candidates should be physically fit as per the prescribed medical standard

Application procedure: Application form and information brochure can be obtained in person or by post from the chairman, undergraduate Admission committee, IT——(as notified ) on the payment  by bank draft/i

Application Form’. Completed application along with fee of Rs 150(Rs40 for SC/ST candidates) through bank draft/IPO in favour of IIT should reach the concerned institute as per choice of JEE centre by registered post. Candidates are required to fill the application form in Eng. only.

Selection is based on merit in JEE. The test consists of 4 papers each of 3 hours duration. The first is a screening paper containing objective type question in phy, chem and Maths. The other three papers are main papers in phy, chem and Maths. The answer scripts of main papers of those candidates who qualify in the screening paper are evaluated .Centers: All over India. Sample questions are given in the information bulletin. The question papers are in English/Hindi.

Answering should be in India Languages.

GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING (GATE)

Admission to post-graduate courses (with scholarship) in Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy/Architecture at engineering colleges/institutes in the country is open to those who qualify the test. GATE is conducted on all India basis jointly by the Indian institutes of Technology and the Indian Institute of science, Bangalore. While qualifying in GATE is essential, final selection is governed by institution. GATE is a mandatory qualification for self-financing foreign students and children of Indian including NRIs holding non-Indian passport and have obtained their qualifying degree from Indian institutions/universities for admission to postgraduate courses.

Postal requests should be accompanied by two-self -addressed slips of 5x10cm size . The envelope should be marked JEE———Application Form’ .Completed  application along with fee of Rs 150(Rs40 for SC/ST candidates) through bank draft/IPO in favour of IIT should reach the concerned institute as per choice of JEE centre by registered post. Application procedure information Brochure and application form can be obtained from the chairman, GATE at IITs  of Indian institute of science, Bangalore 560012 by sending through bank draft in favour of IIT——–Payable at—— (as notified).

Exam is held at various centers all over the country .Candidates are required to appear for a single paper of 4/3/2 hours duration depending on candidate’s qualification and plan of admission.
