Delhi, full of delight, the capital city of India, has been the traditionally the administrative seat of India. There is a very vast history of this special place, Delhi, the capital of India named as New Delhi. It is estimated that its history is 5000 year old. This historical place has seen many ups and downs in its past. It is said that Delhi was ruined eleven times. According to mythological epic, in the time of Mahabharata i.e. in Mahabharatakal it was called Indraprasth.
Prithvi Raj Chauhan was the first king according to historical evidences, who give recognition to Delhi, as his capital was situated in this particular city. Kila Rai Pithora was constructed in this city by this king. It is said that ancestors of Prithvi Raj Chauhan captured this region by Tomar Rajput Anangpal who made here a fort named ‘Lal Kot’ and firstly Delhi was founded by them.
Thereafter Muhammad Ghori defeated Prithvi Raj Chauhan in 1192 A.D. and ruled here. After this, his slave Kutubuddin Aibak became the ruler of Delhi. He established slave dynasty here which until 1290 A.D. Then Khilji’s came into rule and one by one six rulers were thronged simultaneously. Thereafter Tughlak dynasty came into act when its first ruler Nasiruddin Mohammad Gayasusuddin Tughlak attacked on Delhi in 1320 and started his reign followed by Mohammad Bin Tughlak and Firoj Shah Tughlak. Syadd’s and Lodhi’s ruled Delhi after Tughlaks.
Last of Lodhi’s Ibrahim lodhi was defeated Babur in the battle of Panipat. Babar established Mughal dynasty. After Babar his son seat on thrown who was defeated by an Afghan ruler Shershah Suri. But after some time Humayun retain his region from Shershah. After this Mughal king Akbar, Shahjahan, Aurangzeb, etc. ruled on Delhi and after that British established their rule here. During the whole British rule Delhi was the centre place of their empire.
2. ANCIENTMONUMENTS AND MEMORIALS:-
Lal kot:-It was possibly first fort made by any king in Delhi. This was created by Tomer Rajput Anangpal. Its some ruined parts are still present near Mehrauli and Qutubminar.
Qila Rai Pithora: – This was made about 10 century A.D. Actually Rai Pithora was name of the capital city during reign of Prithwi Raj Chauhan. The forte was named according to this particular city.
Mehrauli: – It was built significantly by Kutubuddin Aibak after he came into power after the death of Muhammad Ghori in 1206 A.D…
Siri: – This was a city established by Allaudin khilji in Siri fort was constructed. Now a day more ruined part of Siri fort is lies in Hauz Khas area. During the reign of Allaudin Khilji the madrasa at Hauz khas and it bears the stamp of West Asian culture. People visit here for restaurants and chic boutiques.
Tughlakabad: – The city of Tughlakabad was founded by Gyasuddin Mohammd Tughlak after 1320 A.D… Remaining part of ruins of the large forte can be seen. Fort wall was raised by Muhammad Bin Tughlak, decedent of Gayasuddin Tughlak. He also created a new city called Jahanpanah. It is situated between Rai Pithora and Siri.
Firozabad: – This was a city created by Firoze Shah Tughlak. It was also called Firoj Shah Kotla. Around the cricket stadium some ruins can be seen. A large area was enclosed and contained many mosques, palaces, pillared hall and multi coloured water tank. On the top of his palace Firoze Shah planted a 1500 year old Ashokan pillar.
Shergarh: – It was also a city costructed by Shershah Suri on the ruins of Dinapath built by Humayun. Now it is visible as Purana Qila near Delhi zoo.
3. Humayun’s Tomb: –
Haji Begum, the widow Of Humayun had built this monument. This was designed by architect Mirak Mirza Gyas,who also served as a model Tajmahal. It was completed in 1565.Several other members of Mughal royal family lie buried here and many tombstones are lying here on the terrace.
4. India Gate:-
India Gate is standing majestically at the eastern end of Rajpath. Formerly, it was known as the all IndiaIndia war memorial. It was designed by lutyens and built in 1931.It memorizes the soldiers of the Indian army who died in the First World War. On its wall name of 13516 soldiers are inscribed on its walls. PARLIAMENT HOUSE (SANSAD BHAWAN): –
