Govt jobs may be categorized in to four types.

    • Group A Jobs – IAS, IES, IFS, NDA, CDS
    • Group B Jobs – State civil services, bank po, SSC CGLE Officers etc.
    • Group C Jobs – Assistant , MTS , Typist, Stenographers etc.
    • Group D Jobs – Peon , Sub staff , Gangmen railway etc.

It is true that there is a tough competition for govt jobs in india. For each seats thousands of applicants sit for exam and only a few handful of lucky people grab the job, but its equally true that if you will keep a close eye on each and every notification, then you can easily achieve your goal . For example if a state notifies vacancy, people of other state generally do not compete for their seats. So, Competition become lesser and your chances becomes good. Also if a govt job is having a certain criteria like a certificate in shorthand or a computer certificate, then a lot of people do not qualify in that criteria and number of people sitting for that exam becomes lesser. Also if you are aspiring for jobs in bigger bandwagon like IAS, CDS, IES etc., there is no harm for applying jobs of same category but lesser pay scale and perks. As after getting a job, you confidence may shoots higher and the fear of insecurity will disappear, in this way you will perform greatly in written exams. Lets say you are an aspiring candidate for IAS (Civil Services) , then you should also fill forms for state civil services notified from time to time by State PSC. By giving these exams you can check your preparation level. You will also find like minded candidates aspiring for same sector of govt jobs at the exam centre.

Since a lot of people are going to retire in this decade, the number of govt vacancies are very high and are coming in bulk. Thus those who are preparing in this era will surely get advantage. Current trend also shows that many govt departments and states are notifying about contract jobs without a pay scale and having a fixed lump sum pay. These jobs get renewed after a fixed period, usually one or 3 years respectively. Although these jobs do not attract a large number of job seeker, but they put less financial burden on government. You can also go for these jobs if you want to hone your skills and don’t want to prepare sitting idle and not earning bread and butter for the family.

A lot of students wonder why its tough to crack a govt job in india. The reason being high respect in society and mental peace and security. No matter whatever happens your job is safe if you are in govt sector. Sixth pay commission and upcoming seventh pay commission also increased the charm of govt sector jobs. People started getting high salaries as compared to their counterparts in private sector. Also job insecurity in private sector and recession fear pushes aspirants towards govt jobs. It has been seen many people leaving high package jobs and switching to a meagre paying govt job just for job security. The good thing being that talented people are flowing in govt sector which is crucial for the backbone for the country, but its equally bad for corporate sector as they face talent attrition and talent crunch. If private sector aspires to retain talent and want more people to drive towards them, they will have to provide job security to job seekers and avoid quick fire approach towards the employees. Otherwise p[eople will keep shifting towards sarkari naukri in life. That is the reason, the interest towards govt jobs has not went down in spite of New pension scheme which eliminated the most attractive feature of govt jobs, that is lifetime pension.
